For all those who watched the T20 semi final match between Australia and Pakistan, the old adage, “It aint over till it’s over” must be ringing in the ears – courtesy Mr. Cricket himself. The feeling is still surreal, magical, astonishing and beyond all physical manifestations of elation. As Waqar Younis stated – he still couldn’t believe that they had lost. Mike Hussey, the Wizard of Oz on the day, says it’s not sunk in yet.
What a match and what a finish!!!
Hussey is not known for his big hitting, does not have the usual magic of the superstars but in terms of belief he must put all others to shame. There is so much to like about him as a cricketer. Dizzy Gillesppe was saying on TV that Michael requires all his things in the dressing room well arranged and in perfect order. This character shows up in his clear thinking during his batting. Even in the seemingly whirlwind knock, he had micro divided it into a phase of settling down , then acceleration and then the breathtaking climax. It was not trundlers he was hitting all over the park, it was the best off spinner in the world, the most promising left arm fast bowler and a T20 expert in Afridi. No wonder Ian Chappell has mentioned that this was the greatest chase yet in T20 cricket.
I am sure there will be more and this will be bested but till then a toast to you Hussey – The Daydream believer!!
