Frigid France, Uninspiring Uruguay and the perfect zero

A 0-0 draw in the true sense. Never looked like rising above the ordinary. i watched the first half and got switched off in the second.
France seemed the physically more dominant side in the eraly exchanges. The best chance of the first half came when the ball broke well for Ribery who slanted it across the goal , only for Govou to miss a sitter. This was in the 7th minute. Anelka headed over the crossbar in the 14th but all very innocuous stuff. The game was getting strangled in the midfield and no goalmouth action. It was like a Boxing match where both the contestants did not want to throw any punches.

Forlan came close with a crisp right footed strike which was punched out in the 17th minute. He was the only exception, trying to create something. His partner upfront was getting caught offside time and again, killing the flow of the game.
Gourcuff went for goal with a freekick in the 18th minute which was punched out by the goalkeeper for a corner. There were a few more of this cut and dry stuff and I hope we do not have many more games like these.

Henry came on a substitute in the second half but from what I gather from the reports the second half was the mirror of the first half. A red card late in the game, gave France some hope, undeservedly but the 0-0 draw was inevitable.
Anyway it was a 90 minutes of boring football, nothing much to write about. Lets hope South Africa and Mexico bring out better performances from these teams. 0 marks out of 10 for this one.
I am looking forward to the Argentina game tomorrow and see how they start out.
